On April 11, 2015 the Fresno Bee reported that the Fresno Police Department was investigating the 13th homicide of the year. However, it must be noted that the Fresno Police Department has helped reduce the number of murders in Fresno from 18 at this point of last year to 13 as of the date of the article. Also, it is the 9th gang related homicide. FPD has targeted gang related crime as a focus point, and at this point last year there were 15 gang related homicides. The reduction is astounding, especially if broken down to a percentage basis or per capita reporting system.
While Fresno PD has had their share of bad press lately, and many citizens are calling for Chief Dyer to step down in the wake of the Keith Foster drug conspiracy, perhaps there are statistics that may make the citizens think about effectiveness and public safety over what they feel Chief Dyer should have known.
