Fresno DUI Checkpoint |  Catches Attempted Murder Suspect

Fresno DUI Checkpoints have always seemed to be geared toward more than bringing awareness to the risks and dangers of driving while under the influence.  The loss of individual freedom, which is surrendered when a checkpoint occurs, has always been a slippery slope balancing the greater good against he loss of individual freedom to be free from search and seizure absent individualized suspicioun.  However, much publicized arrests of dangerous felons or people accused of being dangerous felons has been used a propaganda to help gain public support.  Tough cases make for bad law.  Also, good results can help support intrusions on personal liberties.

In this case, a alleged attempted murderer was caught at a Fresno DUI Checkpoint when he jumped out of the car rather than continueing through the checkpoint and risking discovery.  The police were able to apprehend him soon thereafter.  However, the accused also was alleged to have a handgun concealed on him when he was arrested.  Concealed weapons charges can aggravate any other charges he has or be changed as an offense themselves.
