A former Selma (California) Unified School Employee was arrested on sex related charges recently.  The charges are "Annoying or Molesting a Minor" which, while charged as a misdemeanor, can have some very serious repercussions on a person's life.  The charge alone simply has two elements.  First that the accused annoyed or molested a child and secondly, that child was less than 18 years old.  Charges such as the one alleged against the former employee can include, upon conviction, that the person be required to register as a sex offender.  That is pretty much a death sentence for having a normal life, quality employment, dating, social life, and even make living in a residential home or apartment a stressful even if the neighbors oppose your presence.

Imagine if the accusations are not true.  The person has been arrested, had his picture posted on the news, been named in many articles, and received social stigma that may never go away even if he proves his innocence.  Can this person receive a fair trial in Fresno County after an entire city and the surrounding communities have seen the accusation, however void of details, and presumed is guilt?
